3rd Symposium on Insights into Gas Diffusion Electrodes: Featuring Power2Hype’s Contribution on Hydrogen Peroxide Electrosynthesis

Berlin, Germany - September 2, 2025

From Fundamentals to Industrial Applications & Beyond the OER Featuring All-Carbon GDEs for Sustainable Hydrogen Peroxide Production

The 3rd Symposium on “Insights into Gas Diffusion Electrodes: From Fundamentals to Industrial Applications & Beyond the OER” is a joint initiative of the Research Units FOR 2397 “Multiscale Analysis of Complex Three-Phase Systems – Oxygen and CO2 Reduction” and FOR 2982 “Unusual Anode Reactions in Electrochemical Energy conversion: Value Creation rather than Oxygen Evolution in Hydrogen Production”, both funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Porous gas-diffusion electrodes (GDE) play a key role in both projects.

GDEs have broad applications in different electrochemical devices such as (bio)-fuel cells, (bio)-electrolyzers, and batteries for energy conversion as well as inorganic and organic synthesis applications.

One of the highlights of the event is the participation of Power2Hype. Partner Rüdiger Schweiss from SGL Carbon will present a pivotal session titled “All-carbon gas diffusion electrodes for the cathodic electrosynthesis of hydrogen peroxide”. Scheduled for the 4th of September at 14:45 (local time), this session will provide a deep dive into the innovative role of carbon-based GDEs in the electrochemical production of hydrogen peroxide, an essential component of the Power2Hype project’s technological advancements.

This contribution is aligned with the project’s objective to transform the conventional hydrogen peroxide production process into a more sustainable, energy-efficient electrochemical route using renewable energy, air, and water.
